Who we are...

The Finlay Centre for Corporate & Public Governance has been illuminating the evolution of private enterprise and public trust over four decades.  Its uniquely fearless and prescient voice has inspired generations of leaders, managers and stakeholders and has changed the course of today's governance standards in the corporate and public sectors.

The Centre was founded by J. Richard Finlay, one of the world's most recognized voices and longest-cited experts in the governance of major corporations and public institutions, sanity in CEO pay and the ethical performance of trusted leaders.

What we do...

For business

Working with diligent, forward-thinking directors and trustees to advance the agenda for the new boardroom of today: diversity at the table; sanity in CEO compensation; ethics that gleam with integrity and the unrelenting advocacy of hope for all stakeholders.

For public decision-makers

Partnering with leaders and gatekeepers to uphold and enhance the trust of stakeholders, including identifying ethical flash points and questionable practices before they turn into crisis, and manage them to successful outcomes when they occur.

For leaders who can make a difference

Working to create the organization's signature voice with an agenda that makes a difference inside and to the world. Candour alert: Hard to achieve. Few up to the role. Huge payoffs and a nod from history when accomplished.

For the media

Helping to provide insight and commentary in the informed, frank and forthright style that has been The Centre’s hallmark since its beginning. We've helped more authors, journalists and investigative reporters break news on stories than any other governance think tank.

For equity and inclusiveness

Working to create conditions that a safe, inclusive and equitable work place demands for the 21st century. Free from pay bias, bullying and harassment. J. Richard Finlay has been an unswerving voice for greater gender equity in the wider economy, and in the boardroom, since the 1970s.

For a healthier democracy

Partnering with stakeholders, scholars and advocates to make the public process of citizenship and governance more transparent and effective, and to make the hidden sources of power in society — agencies, boards, commissions and regulatory bodies — more accountable and more advancing of the public interest.

Illuminating the evolution of private enterprise and public trust over four decades. The Finlay Centre for Corporate  & Public Governance is the first and longest running think tank of its kind capturing the promise of the well-governed organization and the ethical practices that shape it.

“Sound governance is not some abstract ideal or utopian pipe dream. Nor does it occur by accident or through sudden outbreaks of altruism. It happens only when leaders lead with integrity, when directors actually direct, when ethical values are the sunlight that illuminates all decisions and when major organizations are held to the highest standards of accountability by vigilant stakeholders and informed individuals.”
